I have been having lower back cramps since early this morning. I heard from my close friend at 8am and hear that she's in active labor at the hospital! I believe in Sympathy pains!

Just over 50 years ago I was suffering greatly from bruised and swollen legs. The doctor explained that it was due to the fact that my wife was expecting and I was carrying sympathy pains. My wife, however, was fine and without any pain.

At the time I was helping to promote the growth of Judo in this country and on one particular night we were holding a Judo Special Night at our club. On this night my pains were more swollen than ever but, being Secretary of the club, it was essential that I turned up.

In terrible, throbbing pain I made my way to the club and was extremely surprised to discover that all the bruises had disappeared. My legs were fine and I had a great night on the mat.

On arriving home I told my wife of the disappearing bruises and she replied, "Just look at this". Her legs were bruised exactly as mine had been. Stan.

I typed a long response to this, but unfortunately this blog engine erased it when I was told that I had an error in my email. I clicked back and everything was gone (not complaining, just informing).

Here's the short version...

My wife and I never use antacids. During our first pregnancy, I went through 2, 150 tablet bottles of tums. That was 6.5 years ago. We are expecting again (7th week), I've had heart burn for the last 3-4 weeks. The way we found out was because my wife took a pregnancy test...she took it because I had been complaining for 4 days in a row about heartburn!! LOL, subconcious is one consideration, but I submit that there is a spiritual bond there too...almost like the twins phenomenon. :-)

I firmly believe in the sympathy pains so why not have the same for a close friend?

It's the way that our subconcious allows us to try to relieve the expectant mother and assume some of the burdons of pregnancy at the physical level.
